Buying a New Mac or iPad? Apple’s AppleCare+ Now Costs More

Shoppers eyeing a new Mac or iPad will now pay more for AppleCare+ coverage than they would have a few weeks ago. Apple has raised subscription prices for new AppleCare+ customers, though existing subscribers keep their current rates unchanged.

The increase works out to $0.50 more per month and $5 more per year across a wide range of eligible devices. On the 13-inch MacBook Air, the monthly AppleCare+ plan is now $7.99, up from $7.49, and the annual plan is $79.99, up from $74.99. Apple has applied matching increases to the MacBook Pro, Mac mini, Mac Studio, iMac, the standard iPad, the M4 and M5 iPad Pro models, and the iPad mini.

AppleCare+ bundles technical support with coverage for accidental damage and other eligible repairs, and it remains one of the more popular add-ons at checkout. This latest change follows Apple’s recent decision to raise prices on Macs, iPads, Vision Pro, HomePod, and Apple TV products by between $100 and $1,300, a round of hikes that left the iPhone 17 lineup untouched.

Around the same time as the iPad price increase, Apple introduced a three-year carrier financing option for cellular iPad models, letting buyers spread the cost over 36 months instead of using the Apple Card’s usual 12-month plan.

Bloomberg has reported that the broader price increases are connected to rising component costs amid a global memory shortage, with AI companies driving up demand for DRAM and NAND memory chips. Apple has not explicitly tied the AppleCare+ price change to the shortage, but it arrives within the same wave of cost-related adjustments across its lineup.
