Volkswagen’s Entry-Level Tayron Life Skips the Third Row, Keeps the Tech

Volkswagen's new Tayron Life trim loses its third-row seats and sport styling but retains most of the R-Line's tech, priced at Rs 41.99 lakh in India.

Volkswagen India has introduced the Tayron Life, an entry-level trim of its Tayron SUV that trades the third row and sport styling of the R-Line for a lower price of Rs 41.99 lakh ex-showroom — around Rs 5 lakh cheaper. The SUV will be built locally at Volkswagen’s Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar plant in Maharashtra and rivals the Skoda Kodiaq and Jeep Meridian.

Losing the third row turns the Tayron Life into a five-seater, but the cabin otherwise holds on to most of the R-Line’s technology: a 15-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a panoramic sunroof, three-zone automatic climate control, powered front seats with ventilation and massage, dual wireless smartphone charging, a 360-degree camera, nine airbags and Level 2 ADAS.

Exterior changes reflect the absence of the R-Line’s sport package — the front grille, wheel arch cladding and rear bumper trim are finished without gloss black, and the front bumper has a revised look with L-shaped grille inserts and a silver trim piece. Slim Matrix LED headlamps, an illuminated VW logo and a full-width LED light bar remain across both the front and rear.

The SUV measures 4,792mm in length with a 2,789mm wheelbase, and runs on 18-inch alloy wheels, an inch smaller than the R-Line. One notable trim-down: the Tayron Life gets an 8-speaker sound system in place of the R-Line’s 11-speaker Harman Kardon unit.

Power comes from the same EA888 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine as the R-Line, delivering 204hp and 320Nm through a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission and all-wheel drive. The Tayron Life can be booked online or at dealerships now, with deliveries set to begin soon.
