Haaland wears a watch that’s harder to get than a supercar

Owning the watch Erling Haaland was recently seen wearing isn’t just about money — it’s about getting in line. The Manchester City forward was photographed on a yacht off Sicily, unwinding after Norway’s World Cup 2026 qualification campaign ended, wearing a Richard Mille RM 55-01 in White Quartz TPT, a model that isn’t officially a limited edition but is still notoriously difficult to buy.

That’s because Richard Mille, known for producing only a relatively small number of watches each year, has never chased volume. The RM 55-01 launched in April this year with a reported retail price of around £160,000, but with supply far behind demand, many buyers who don’t want to wait for an official allocation have turned to the resale market instead — where prices have shot up well past retail.

Some listings for the watch have reached as high as £849,500, more than five times the original price, while other versions in different case materials have appeared at £710,000 and £620,000. These are asking prices rather than confirmed completed transactions, but they underline how quickly interest in the model has grown since its release only a few months ago.

The RM 55-01 stands out among recent Richard Mille releases for its simpler design philosophy. Rather than stacking on complications, it puts the focus on time display and engineering, built around a hand-wound, openworked movement weighing less than five grams. It comes in three versions — White Quartz TPT, Grey Quartz TPT and Carbon TPT — each using lightweight, durable composite materials associated with the Swiss watchmaker.

Haaland has previously been linked to luxury watch collecting, and this latest sighting is expected to draw even more attention to the RM 55-01 among collectors. While the resale figures don’t confirm what anyone has actually paid, they leave little doubt about the demand building around the watch.
