TCS’s Kolkata Move Signals A Bigger Global AI Push

TCS has opened a Gemini Experience Centre in Kolkata as part of a plan to run 10 such AI innovation hubs worldwide by the end of 2026.

Murali Ramanathan, CTO of TCS’s consumer business group, says the company’s new AI lab in Kolkata is designed to do more than showcase technology. ‘The GEC in Kolkata extends this collaboration by providing a dedicated environment for consumer businesses to co-create, test and scale AI-led offerings,’ he said, describing it as a way to help enterprises worldwide move ‘from pilots to enterprise-scale adoption.’

The facility, a Consumer Business Group Gemini Experience Centre (GEC), was built in partnership with Google Cloud around its Gemini AI models and is aimed squarely at consumer-facing businesses looking to build and test AI tools in a live environment rather than through one-off demos.

It’s the third Gemini Experience Centre TCS has opened in India, joining the Retail Innovation Lab in Chennai and the BFSI Innovation Lab in Bengaluru, each tailored to a different industry vertical.

The Kolkata launch is part of a much larger rollout: TCS says it will open 10 such centres worldwide by the end of 2026, with 4 of them in India, as the company deepens its reliance on hyperscaler partnerships to manage the next phase of AI-enabled transformation across its client base.

Google Cloud’s India director of partnerships, Shivir Chordia, said the Kolkata launch marks ‘a crucial step in accelerating agentic AI adoption,’ adding that the joint work with TCS is already helping clients ‘realise business value faster.’
