Observer reviews electoral roll revision in Mizoram’s border district Lunglei

An Election Commission observer reviewed the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls in Mizoram's border district of Lunglei.

Electoral Roll Observer Dr Lalhriatzuali Ralte, IAS, visited Lunglei on 8 July 2026 to review the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of Electoral Rolls, 2026. She currently serves as Secretary of the Labour, Employment, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Department and Chief Executive Officer of the Mizoram State Health Care Society.

A review meeting took place at the DC Conference Hall in Lunglei, chaired by Deputy District Election Officer Pi Zoramdini and attended by election officials, Electoral Registration Officers, Assistant Electoral Registration Officers, the District Media Nodal Officer, and representatives of political parties and civil society organisations. Election Officer Pi Lalhruaitluangi presented the status of the draft electoral roll and SIR 2026 progress in the district.

Dr Ralte said the purpose of her visit was to assess the revision’s progress and convey observations to the Election Commission of India. She noted that Lunglei is one of Mizoram’s largest districts and shares an international border, calling for extra vigilance during the process, and appreciated the district administration’s coordination with political parties, Local and Village Councils and NGOs.

She urged stakeholders to ensure only eligible Indian citizens are included in the electoral roll, that all eligible persons aged 18 and above are enrolled, and that no eligible voter is excluded, while encouraging wider use of the Voter Helpline App. She examined SIR-related records and discussed measures for a correct, error-free roll.

The Draft Electoral Roll for SIR 2026 was published on 4 July 2026, recording 98,808 electors across Lunglei’s six Assembly Constituencies. Applications for corrections and new enrolments may be submitted until 4 August 2026, with the final roll due for publication on 6 September 2026.
